In the third quarter of 2009, TMK shipped to customers 716 thousand tons of steel pipes, which is 15% more than in the previous quarter. Growth of shipment associated with the restoration of the demand for tubular products, as well as strengthening the market position of the company, said in a statement TMK.

The growth in demand from major oil and gas companies, in the third quarter of TMK increased its shipment OCTG and line pipe of 8% compared with the second quarter of 2009 to 377 tons. Thus the main growth took place in the segment of line pipe, where an increase in shipments was 17%, which is associated with the technological features of deposits and the cyclical nature of the procurement OCTG and line pipe oil and gas companies.

The company expects to further increase the demand for these products in the fourth quarter, noted in the announcement TMK. Shipment of high margin of pipes with threaded connections Premium class increased by 49% to 43 thousand tons. Also TMK in the third quarter significantly increased the shipment of pipes for industrial use. The growth of supply for different types of products made from 20% to 47%.

Despite the positive dynamics that TMK demonstrated in the third quarter, the volume of shipments for the first nine months of 2009 decreased compared to the same period last year due to a sharp fall in demand in almost every segment of the pipe market in the first half.

In the first nine months of 2009 were shipped 1 918 tonnes of pipes, which is 21% less compared to the same period in2008. The volume of shipments of pipes with threaded connections Premium class grew by 10% and amounted to 101 thousand tons.

Starting from the second quarter, the situation has improved markedly in the segment of large diameter pipes (LDP), primarily due to development of the mill for the production of longitudinal LDP on the Volga Pipe Plant. In connection with the implementation of several projects of Gazprom and Transneft, such as the Sakhalin-Khabarovsk-Vladivostok and BPS-2, the company anticipates a significant increase in shipments of LDP in the second half compared with the first.

American division of TMK Enterprises after a sharp fall in shipments in the first half increased shipments of pipe products in the third quarter by 52% (up to 96 tons) compared with the second mainly due to oil and gas pipes, above all, OCTG. The Company expects that the enterprise of the American division achieved the level of loading of about 70% by the end of 2009. These expectations are highly dependent on the restoration of gas prices in the U.S., while in lower level, which allows to predict a full recovery of demand in the U.S. market in 2010, not 2009.

The company predicts further growth in shipments in the fourth quarter. It is expected that this will contribute to the seasonal factor in demand for OCTG and line pipe in Russia, the continued recovery in drilling activity and exploration of new fields in Russia and the United States, as well as the active implementation of major pipeline projects in Russia. However, the company expects to reduce the volume of shipments in 2009, compared to 2008, which caused a sharp reduction in demand in the first half of 2009, the report said TMK.
